Bedrest and other un-fun-ness!!!

I'm so sorry that I have not been updating or posting anything recently. I have been in and out of the hospital with horrible back pain. I am still undiagnosed (unfortuantely) and have been put on partial bedrest. I will hopefully be able to at least post in my blog and hang out on etsy while I am recovering, but my meds make me very drowsy. Thank you to all of my wonderful readers and friends!!! You guys have all been fantastic. I will resume the Weight Loss Challenge as soon as I am able to be up and about.

And on a quick note about Project G.A.B.E. - Gabe is now doing better in school. He had a perfect week this past week. His first one since starting his school career. He got no warnings or anything. I am so proud of him!!! He is still doing his artwork and making up 'adventures' with his ACEOS and I truely believe that these have helped a ton with his behavior!!!

Thank you to everyone who is supporting my family, my son, and of couse myself!!! You will never know how much it means to me. I really appreciate it!!!

I will update as much as I can. And you are also more than welcome to check out the blog for my other etsy shop. The blog is http://shoptheabbey.blogspot.com and the shop link is: http://TheAbbey.etsy.com

Reward System...

Ok, so I am going to make like one of my kids and use a reward system for this weight loss challenge. I am only on day 3 - and this is harder than I thought it would be. Why isn't my will power enough? I figured that because I want to lose weight and get in shape so much, that this would all be so easy. That it would just come naturally. Let me tell you - it is not that easy!!! I have so much respect for people who are doing a lifestyle change. It is hard work and I just want you to know that I am proud of you all for sticking to it. It takes courage to change. It takes courage to overcome food. It takes courage to go on that walk or go to the gym. I want to be that brave...

So here is my reward system. I have 50 pounds to lose, so I am going to reward myself for every 10 pounds lost. Once I hit that last 10 pounds, my reward for hitting goal weight is going to be a new, sexy dress!!! I am so excited. I've heard that the first year after losing weight is the hardest time for maintaining the weight loss, so every 3 months (for a year) that I am within 3 pounds of my goal weight I am going to reward myself.

I think I came up with a good system to help me focus and also a treat to strive for. Here is a tentative list of what my rewards will be.

10 pounds lost: Adorable Make Up Bag - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13346134

20 pounds lost: Beautiful Art Kit - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=12056745

30 pounds lost: Lovely Initial Necklace - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=14127484

40 pounds lost: Gorgeous Hair Pin - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13486530

50 pounds lost: Sexy Dress - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_4&listing_id=13500400

Weight Loss Challenge - Week 1

Ok, today is the start of my weight loss challenge.

My weight today is 195.5

So the PIF for next week will be worth the dollar amount of 195.5 - weight loss (1 pound = 1 dollar).

I am so nervous and excited about this!!! I am doing the nutrisystem food program (because I still have tons of that food to go through). Once that food is gone and I start trying to diet on my own, I will let you all know.

I am using my Lucky Sparrow Moleskin Cahier (Lined) from MuffinTopsyTurvy as my food journal. If you would like one of your own, here is the link:

Weight Loss Challenge

WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE

Ok, So I'm tired of carrying around this extra weight from my last baby, so I am sarting my own weight loss challenge. I spent a ton of money on Nutrisystem and because of family situations (son being sick, etc), I have not used any of it yet. So I am challenging myself and you all get to benefit from it. I am starting on Sunday, August 17, 2008. I will be weighing myself every Sunday thereafter. For every pound lost in a given week, I will list a PIF of that amount (ie, 1 pound = 1 dollar, so if I loose 2 pounds it will be a product worth $2). This is a fun way for ya'll to get cute free stuff and for me to stay accountable. This challenge will go until Dec 15, at that time I will list ONE PIF worth the total amount of my weightloss (my goal is 145 and I am at 196ish right now). So the more weight I loose by then, the more value that PIF will have. I know you all want awesome free stuff, so if you see me start to slip, feel free to let me know to get my booty into gear!!!

Thanks for the support!!!!

Kindergarten Blues

Sorry, I haven't blogged in awhile. I have been getting Gabe ready for Kindergarten, yes, Kindergarten. I can't believe he is old enough to be in elementary school. I am a little worried about how he will do. Mind you, this is the kid who got sent home from Pre-K at least once a week. He even got suspended from Pre-K for a day. I hope this school year goes a lot better. He seems to be doing better at home. I think his new therapy tactics are starting to pay off, but still.....school makes me nervous because I am not there to monitor his behavior.

He did get some more ACEOs in the mail the past couple of days. I think he is having fun using them, someimes it is still frustrating for him though. He is not very good with expressing and identifying his emotions. But we did just start this new therapy - so we will see how it goes. Doing his own artwork is helping too. He really likes putting his 'thoughts' onto paper. I am very proud of how far he has come.

I will keep ya'll updated as to how he is doing.

GABE Update 2 - ACEOs Are Here!!!

Gabe got 3 aceos in the mail!!! He is so excited. We used them today and it was great. What we did today was have him describe the images on the aceos. It went really well. He was able to focus and explain the images as he saw them. As we progress I think it will be easier for him to make up stories based on the images.

Yay for day one with ACEOs!!!!

GABE update 1 - The Sketch Book

Yay!!! I took Gabriel to the store yesterday and got him his very first sketch book (he had been using computer paper and an old sketch book of mine). We also got him a new set of markers!!! He is so excited to have his own new art stuff. I swear, he spent a good hour and half just drawing and doodle-in around. He decided on 5 of his pictures so far to sell (for Project G.A.B.E.) - so I went ahead and listed them on Etsy. He was so proud to see his pictures up there. I am so happy for him.

And you should have heard him describing his pictures!!! When your child has so much trouble expressing himself.... You just can't imagine how much my heart soared listening to him. Hee put so much detail into describing what was going on in the pictures!!! It was amazing to hear him talk like that.

I think that this could be the best thing that has happened so far in helping him.

Here are his pictures:

PROJECT G.A.B.E. (Giving Art, Becoming Enriched)

This is something new that I am doing for my son (it is named after him). As some of you know, my 5 yr old has a behavior disorder called oppositional defiance disorder. He does not understand his emotions and has trouble controlling his behavior. This causes him fits of anger, sadness and even violence. He is currently in a therapy program (and it is helping immensely) and we are starting to integrate ways for him to learn to control his own behavior - not just us controlling it for him. This therapy is based on creativity and art as a means to heal.

He also has 'quite time' everday where he sits with trading cards and tells out stories of how the characters are feeling. I love this form of therapy as it helps him identify emotions, but I am not happy with the trading cards currently on the market - most are violent and not appropriate for children with anger problems. So we are in the process of obtaining ACEOs for him to use instead. There are some wonderful, talented artists on Etsy who have offered to create ACEO sets for him to use and I could not be happier.

Project G.A.B.E. items are pictures that my son has made during his creativity time. He picked the ones that he is willing to 'share' (sorry, some of them are too important to him to let go). The money from his pictures will be used to purchase these wonderful ACEO sets.

All pictures are drawn/colored in his very own sketch book (his favorite thing) with crayola washable markers (scented, of course). My son titles all of the pictures. And although I write the titles and dates on the back, he signs them himself.

We have been so blessed by the kindness, compassion and support of fellow Etsians. I just want to say thank you to everyone!!! And a special thank you to those who donated ACEOs to aid in my son's therapy - I really appreciate it.

Thank you for taking time out to read this.

Please convo me(on Etsy) if you have any questions.

Please check out the artists who are creating these ACEO sets - they do amazing work.

Etsy at Christmas Challenge

Calling all Etsians
I need your help and opinions...

This year for Christmas I have decided to purchase all handmade goods. This means tons of fun Etsy shopping!!!

I am calling this my 'Etsy at Christmas' Challenge (after the song 'Someday at Christmas').
I'm not sure if there is already a pledge or anything like this out there, as I am a newbie. But this is what I am doing and it is really important to me. I am boycotting corporate Christmas. I am trying to make Christmas what it is supposed to be - giving beautiful gifts with importance, that mean something, to show people I love them and truly thought of them this year.

I like to start my Christmas shopping early, instead of waiting until the last minute, so I will be starting my challenge NOW!!! To keep myself accountable (and to stave off any mall slipups), I will be keeping track on my blog and myspace. I will list the people I need to purchase gifts for, along with a short description. I will update gifts (along with seller info) as I make purchases.

If you have any good ideas or just want to show off an item, please let me know. I would love to see what items you love and hopefully find some great gifts too. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Send all ideas and such to:
www.myspace.com/threeofwands
or
shopthreeofwands@yahoo.com

And while your at it, go ahead and see if you can do the 'Esty at Christmas' Challenge. Let's see if we all can go handmade this year!!!

ThreeOfWands.etsy.com - Now offering Tarot readings

~~~~ABOUT OUR TAROT READINGS~~~~
*Tarot Reading in General*
An important part of making good decisions is to know as much as you can about the situations that present themselves in your life. If your tarot reading is positive, then you know that your current life path is going well. By the same means, if your reading is negative, you know to choose a different path. You should already have an inkling as to what the cards are going to say, good or bad. The tarot is a means of guiding your decisions. However, the Tarot is not designed to make your decisions for you. When your cards are read it is important to look at the meaning, but also to look at your thoughts and feelings about the reading. Then make good decisions based on the information gained. Divination is nothing more than getting in touch with the Divine within all things.
*My Personal Feelings on Tarot*
Because Tarot cards do not belong to a religion and are merely divination tools, many people have different views on where their energy comes from.I personally, do not belive Tarot to be a means of 'fortune telling.' I believe that Tarot can and does give you insight into issues concering your life(past, present or future). But I also believe that a person can change their own life, no matter what the cards say. Tarot reading, for me, is a way to shed light on a situation, a way of focusing on said situation(whether known or unknown), developing new thoughts or ideas on said situation and ultimately learning how to direct your energy into positively changing or maintaining the situation. Tarot readings merely open your energy(body, mind and spirit) to new ways of thinking and help you apply that thinking in a fresh way.
*Where My Energy Comes From*
Everyone has energy within them and everyone has energy that is given to them in some way. This external energy can come from anywhere. Some people believe that their energy comes from spiritual or magical beings, whether angels, fairies, spirits(including deceased loved ones), higher powers, God, etc. Some people believe that their energy grows from contact with others; good(or bad) relationships, friends, children, etc. or even situations, i.e. having a good day boosts your energy.I personally believe that my energy comes from my guardian angels. They are the ones assigned to protect me and they are the ones I ask for insight from when learning about a situation.
*How I Do a Tarot Reading*
Everyone has different views and 'rituals' when it comes to doing a reading. There is no right or wrong answer for this, it is just what comes naturally for a reader.My readings are done in my 'sanctuary.' A calm, quiet space where I can go to be alone and focus on my cards and my energy.
I DO BURN INCENSE
I DO LIGHT WHITE CANDLES(to cleanse my space)
I DO CLEANSE MY DECK WITH ROSE QUARTZ BETWEEN READINGS(to seperate energy from different readings)
I DO USE A CLOTH(to help my cards and energy 'flow')
I DO NOT LET MY CARDS TOUCH THE GROUND(out of respect and purity)
I DO NOT PLAY MUSIC
*More Tarot Info*
If you are uncomfortable in anyway with my personal feelings on Tarot, the way I cleanse my space, the way I do readings or anything else, please, DO NOT request a Tarot reading. I'm not trying to be rude, but a reading is to help you gain insight on your life and if my way is not comfortable for you, your reading WILL NOT BE ACCURATE. This is not about making a buck, this is about helping you gain insight so that you can meditate(or pray) and ultimately help you find new ways to fix a situation.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE BEFORE YOU PURCHASE
To Purchase Handmade, in a nutshell
I made my first Etsy purchase today!!!
I am so excited. Normally I hate speding money on toys and such, but my daughter was checking out the site with me and fell absolutely in love with a mermaid toy. So I just had to get it for her. And you know what? I felt exhilarated and totally justified in doing so. It feels really good to buy handmade. It feels really good knowing that my daughter will have a beautiful plaything that someone cared enough to actually make, instead of send it down an assembly line. It feels special knowing that she loves something (or will love something, we just ordered it today) that someone else lovingly created.
She watches me work and loves to 'help' mommy, but she doesn't quite understand what I am doing. She is only three, but I hope to instill in her the love and importance of handmade goods. When her new lovey arrives I'm going to tell her how it was created just for her, by someone who knew she would love it very much...
Cleanse Your Space Already
Within the next week I will be adding a 'mini sanctuary' to our product listings. I am really excited for this item and can't wait to share it with you all. It will include items that will cleans and purify your prayer, meditation, tarot or even just your 'quite time' space.
This is NOT a spell. It is a means to get you in the frame of mind for quiet, inner spirit personal time.
Check back soon to see when it will be available
I'm Not the Only Creative One (a.k.a. Starting My Store)
~~~~My Intro to Etsy~~~~

So, I'm creative. I pride myself on being creative and artistic. I love to make jewelry, atc's, bath and body products, paitings, dolls, etc. You name it, I love to make it. So I decided to start an Etsy store to sell some of my creations. I looked at the site, did some research, basically tried to get a feel for the site and how it works. To my astonishment, the products are amazing. I was in awe of some of these people's creativity and talent. There are some absolutely beautiful pieces for sale. Now, I'm like, ok, so who's gonna want my stuff? I mean, I want my stuff. I love my pieces. I make things that inspire and move me. Things that I am drawn to. I just hope others are drawn to my work as well.

~~~~My Inspiration~~~~
I love religion and spirituality, folk lore and fairy tales. I think that a person's beliefs are so personal and so beautiful. I strive to create things that help bring out a person's hopes and dreams, beliefs, fears, even the depths of their spirituality. I think all religious cultures have great meaning and ideas, so I try to include as many different religious pieces in my line as possible. I love studying the tarot, runes, herbal well-being, the bible and chakras. I love doing tarot readings. I feel such a connection to myself as a reader and the person I am reading for. I currently read from 3 decks, The Llewellyn Tarot, The Tarot Discovery Deck and The Vannessa Tarot. I make rune sets and will have some up for sale soon. I love my rune sets because I actually use runes. I understand the importance and history behind runes. When I make my runes, I craft each stone by hand and lovingly imagine the meaning into each stone. This helps the set focus properly during a reading. I find the more you practice with and use rune sets, you can tell which sets were created with the meanings in mind, and which were just thrown together to make a sale.
